Someone in reasonably good health and kids eight years old and over (introductory dives - check with the dive center for age and health requirements) can have a blast while scuba diving in Fiji. You’ll find at least 30 professional dive centers in Fiji.
Be sure that they are in some way affiliated with an internationally certifying agency like PADI or NAUI. While standards vary from one Fiji dive resort to the next you will see equipment that is in good condition, clean facilities and a knowledgeable staff.
A lot of the islands transportation is by air and unless you are a really good swimmer you probably got to Fiji on a plane. While it is perfectly fine to go scuba diving in Fiji when you arrive by plane it is important not to go scuba diving in Fiji 12 hours before your flight out (Experts say 24 hours before your flight out). This helps minimize the residual nitrogen in the blood that can lead to decompression.
Diving In Fiji: Yasawa Islands
When scuba diving in Fiji head towards the Yasawa Islands. It’s not that crowded but only has a few dive boats. The chain of ancient volcanos offers great corals and reefs with excellent visibility. Be sure and check out Lekima’s Ledge for a mind blowing underwater cliff that’s great for beginners. You can find it just off Vawa island. Another recommended spot is the Blue Lagoon Caves for spectacular corral and extraordinary marine life when scuba diving in Fiji.
