in a raft and check with the company you are booking the trip with to make sure you understand the dangers of the river. You can feel safe in knowing that most of the outfitters and tour operators only employ exceptional guides with many years experience to take of you and lead you by the hand but you will get involved in the ride a good bit. Middle fork American Rafting will take you about ten to twelve hours and remember, this river is rougher than some of the others so be prepared for a little sourness the next day. You can expect magnificent wilderness sights and plenty of opportunities to snap some great photos on this stretch of river but make sure you have a water proof camera and more than one just so you don’t miss the shot you wished you had film for. Keep the cameras attached to you in a safe way because there is a risk of the boat tipping over from swift currents and unseen dangers. If it is your first time in a raft you might want to get started on another stretch of beginning whitewater because even experienced rafters can have a hard time handling the Middle Fork. If you keep going downstream after Ruck-A-Chucky be sure to get a biet to eat at Mammoth Bar. Murderer’s Bar Rapid will be the next stop which is unrunnable where you don’t want to end up and there are very sharp walls by Murderer’s Gorge along with highly turbulent waters that have killed even experienced boaters and rafters. If you are already nervous as a long tailed cat around rocking chairs fear not because there are several great camping spots to pitch a tent and still enjoy the middle fork. You will need to get a special river camping permit and be double sure that you are on public property before pitching. There are no formally developed campsites but the canyon does offer a lot of very scenic sandbars and some even have shade trees to spend a night. Some of the most popular locations are Ford’s Bar and Cherokee Bar and are more secluded, some of the less frequented sites can be found between Cache Bar and Ford’s Bar. If you have what it takes for Middle fork American Rafting you’ll have a great time if not head some where else.
